volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

A set of chemical substances of organic origin characterized by their great volatility. It includes all hydrocarbons that are in a gaseous state at room temperature (under normal conditions) or that quickly pass from liquid to gas. There are more than a thousand of these pollutant substances catalogued, distributed throughout the Earth, in places as remote as Antarctica, the deep sea, tropical rainforests, or high mountains.
