Convergence

This concept, applied to a wind field at a given atmospheric level, represents the meeting of two opposing flows, resulting in a vertical displacement of air, thanks to which the excess air that this situation tends to accumulate at the atmospheric level in question is able to escape. If convergence occurs at low levels, the air escapes upward (ascending motion), while convergence aloft causes a forcing of the opposite sign, generating descending air currents (subsidence). It is the opposite of the concept of divergence.
