Chinook
A wind mainly from the southwest, dry and superheated due to the foehn effect, that blows to the leeward side of the Rocky Mountains (USA), on its eastern slope. Its onset causes a significant rise in temperatures. It takes its name from the Indian tribes that inhabited the northwest Pacific coast region of the USA, along the course of the Columbia River, although it is popularly known as the "devourer of snow" (snow eater).
