Tropical climate

A type of climate characteristic of the tropical realm, whose main hallmarks are the presence of humid heat all year round, the absence of frost, and a rainfall regime of markedly torrential character, with a rainy season and a dry one. In the Köppen climate classification it corresponds to type A. In places where this climate occurs, every month of the year, without exception, the average temperature is above 20°C (some authors lower that threshold to 18°C). That classification establishes the following three subtypes: humid or equatorial tropical climate (Af), monsoon tropical climate (Am), and dry or savanna tropical climate (Aw or As, depending on whether winter or summer is the dry season).
