pampero
A cold, intense wind from the south and southwest, gusty and quite unpleasant, that blows in the pampas of Argentina and Uruguay. It is associated with the low-pressure systems that cross the Patagonian region, on their usual west-to-east path. The pampero breaks in as the cold front of one of those low-pressure systems passes, and is accompanied by thundery showers, squalls, and an abrupt and notable drop in temperature.
