D layer

A region of the atmosphere located between 60 and 90 km of altitude that only manifests during the day and that constitutes the lower part of the ionosphere. Above it, it overlaps with the E layer, or Heaviside layer. The D layer has a great absorption capacity, attenuating the solar radiation that passes through it. It is an effective protective shield.
