Coastal El Niño
A phenomenon that usually precedes El Niño and consists of the anomalous warming of the surface waters of the equatorial Pacific near South America, which causes an alteration of both ocean currents and meteorological patterns in Peru, Ecuador, and northern Chile. Its scope is regional, unlike El Niño or La Niña, which have a global influence.
