Ridge
An isobaric configuration, also known as an anticyclonic wedge, ridge, or high-pressure crest, that corresponds to a region of the atmosphere where the pressure is higher than in the surrounding areas. On surface maps, it is characterized by a set of open isobars, forming a kind of tongue that extends in a given direction (the ridge's axis), from the center of an anticyclone toward a peripheral area located at higher latitudes. Ridges are also clearly defined on upper-air maps, always flanked by two troughs.
