heat dome
A ridge of warm air favored by a persistent blocking situation, resulting in the formation of a kind of dome or vault of trapped air where the temperature is anomalously high at any tropospheric level. This colloquial expression has become popular in recent years in parallel with the increasingly frequent occurrence of extreme heat waves in different regions of the world.
