extreme weather event

A meteorological episode of extraordinary magnitude, whose scale amply exceeds the average values reached by one of the same type. Torrential rains, wind storms, snowfalls, droughts, floods, cold and heat waves, tornadoes, tropical cyclones, etc., can have an extreme character. Extreme meteorological phenomena cause significant material damage and have a high impact on the world's population, as reflected in the death toll figures they cause each year.
