prediction (meteorological)

In Meteorology, a prediction is a precise statement of the future state of the atmosphere at a given place and time, based on the physical laws that explain atmospheric behavior. Nowadays, weather predictions are based on the outputs of numerical general circulation models of the atmosphere. Weather prediction based on the scientific method was born in the second half of the 19th century, taking a qualitative leap in the mid-20th century, with the emergence of computers and numerical weather prediction. Depending on the forecast horizon and the way in which the forecast is carried out, a division into different types of predictions is established.
