trace gas

A gas present in the atmosphere in a variable proportion and in small relative quantities, always below 1% by volume. Argon is the most abundant trace gas of all those contained in the air, with an approximate concentration of 0.93%. Helium, ozone, and greenhouse gases, among others, are also trace gases.
