meteotsunami
A train of progressive waves and a rise in sea level caused by sudden changes in atmospheric pressure and gravity waves on the sea surface, as a low-pressure system or other cyclonic system passes. They occur in shallow coastal areas in different parts of the world, such as the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, the North American Great Lakes, or the Gulf of Mexico. In the USA, especially on its east coast, they are particularly frequent; around 25 occur per year, most of them small, with waves not exceeding half a meter in height.
