tropical disturbance

A term habitually used in the field of tropical meteorology and in Latin American countries affected by hurricanes. It refers to an area of atmospheric instability, several hundred kilometers in diameter, with abundant cloudiness, showers, storm activity, and gusty winds. The tropical disturbance is the area located over the sea where convection begins to acquire a certain degree of organization and a potential tropical cyclone begins to develop.
