Anthropocene

A name suggested by part of the scientific community to designate a new epoch in the Earth's geological history, characterized by the global impact of human activities. Pending approval of that proposal by the relevant international commission and its acquiring official status, at present, in geological terms, the latest epoch of the current Quaternary period is the Holocene.
