anemometer

A meteorological instrument used to measure wind speed or, simultaneously, direction and speed. There are different types, the most common being the cup anemometer. Among the more modern types, notable ones include the sonic (or ultrasonic) anemometer, the hot-wire anemometer, and digital ones, based on laser technology.
