A thermal sensation of intense heat, hard to bear, due to the presence of warm, very humid air. On days of intense mugginess, the air tends to be still and the sky has a whitish appearance, with high clouds commonly present. Mugginess manifests clearly along the Mediterranean coast in summer, particularly at times of day when the sea breeze stops.
