high sea (Douglas 7)

Although not a strictly meteorological term, it is used in sea state forecasts, complementary to weather forecasts. It corresponds to grade 7 on the Douglas scale; the sea surface displays waves of between 6 and 9 meters (as tall as trees, hence the name) and the foam they generate is arranged in narrow streaks aligned with the prevailing wind, apart from flying off, driven by it.
