AMOC

The acronym for the English expression Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. It is a set of ocean currents, both surface and deep, located in the North Atlantic, which are one of the main drivers of the ocean heat conveyor belt. Climate scientists have been monitoring its behavior for years. For decades it has been monitored and a slowdown has been observed in it, due to a decrease in the flow of cold, salty surface water which, as it sinks toward the bottom, forms deep water. Some scientists have begun to speculate about its possible collapse over the course of this century, which would have important regional implications in northern Europe, where cooling similar to that of the last glaciation could occur.
