sky
In its meteorological sense, synonymous with atmosphere. Etymologically, it derives from the Latin term caelum, with no unanimous agreement on its original source. Most authors place it in the Greek term κοῖλον (kilon), which we translate as concave, empty, or hollow, and which we relate to the vault that the sky appears to form when observed from the Earth's surface.
