ball lightning
The name given to ball or globular lightning. Its etymological origin lies in the Latin term scintilla, which we translate as spark (of an electrical nature). In colloquial language, this name is given to each of the low-intensity flashes that accompanies the main discharge of a storm. Lightning and the associated ball flashes unfold across the sky in a branching pattern.
